Before you sell alcohol beverages to retail customers, you must have an alcohol license that is approved by different states, government bodies and licensing authorities. Responsible Alcohol Training is intended for those who work on licensed retail premises such as bar staff, supermarket cashiers, waiters/waitresses, licensed shop cashiers, etc. There are two types of alcohol license for retailers, the on-premises and off-premises. Alcohol license for on-premises is for hotels and restaurants while license for off-premises is for drug stores and grocery stores.

This training is not only important for alcohol retailers but also for individuals and communities to prevent excessive consumption, alcohol-related violence or crime, exposure to children and for public safety. Responsible Alcohol Training for retailer course takes 4 hours to complete composed of General core areas. This course is also designed under the requirements of the Licensing Act of 2003.

Every licensed retailer is permitted for an inspection from a local licensing officer to secure standards for the safety of both customers and the retailers.

In some states, a licensed retailer is required to take a recertification to renew their licensed and to be updated with new trends, standards, and policies.
